Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Casserole

A delightful and time-saving twist on traditional biscuits and gravy, perfect for brunch or family breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can Refrigerated Buttermilk Biscuits
  • 1 lb Ground Breakfast Sausage
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 cups Whole Milk
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • Seasonings to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the ground sausage, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once browned, sprinkle in the flour and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour flavor.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk. Keep stirring until your gravy thickens, which takes around 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. While the gravy thickens, cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters.
  6. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and layer the biscuit pieces evenly across the bottom.
  7. Pour the sausage gravy mixture over the biscuits, spreading it out evenly.
  8. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and pour them over the casserole for even coverage.
  9. Add the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  10. Place the dish in your preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the eggs are set and the cheese is golden brown.
  11. Let it cool slightly before serving to allow the casserole to set.

Notes

For added flavor, consider substituting breakfast sausage with turkey sausage or plant-based alternatives. Pair with fresh fruit or crispy hash browns.
