Buttery Matcha Croissants

Delicious flaky croissants infused with earthy matcha green tea flavor, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon matcha green tea powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the cold, cubed butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, warm the milk slightly. Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk and let it sit for a few minutes until bubbly.
  4. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Once chilled, roll the dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface. Fold the dough several times to create those delightful layers.
  7. Cut the dough into triangles. Starting from the wide end, roll each piece into a croissant shape and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the croissants with the beaten egg and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm, can be paired with matcha latte, Earl Grey tea, or a drizzle of honey.
