Hawaiian Roll French Toast

Elevate classic French toast using the soft, sweet flavor of Hawaiian rolls, perfect for brunch or a delightful family breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter, for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh fruits, whipped cream, powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Start by slicing each Hawaiian roll in half horizontally.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Dip each roll half into the custard mixture, ensuring they soak for about 30 seconds on each side to absorb the flavors.
  4. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat until it’s bubbling.
  5. Place the soaked rolls cut-side down in the skillet. Cook them for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Continue this process until all rolls are cooked, adding more butter as needed for frying.
  7. Keep your finished French toast warm in a low oven until you’re ready to serve.
  8. Plate with your favorite toppings and enjoy every bite!

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a splash of almond extract to the custard mixture.
