Hawaiian Roll French Toast Casserole

A delightful twist on classic French toast using soft Hawaiian rolls, perfect for brunch or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Butter (for greasing)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the Hawaiian rolls into quarters and arrange them in the greased baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until thoroughly combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the Hawaiian rolls, ensuring each piece is well-soaked.
  5. Allow the casserole to sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and drizzle with maple syrup.

Notes

Allowing the rolls to soak thoroughly is key for a soft texture. Variations can include adding chocolate chips, nuts, or flavored whipped cream.
