Homemade Hash Browns

Crispy and delicious homemade hash browns, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 1 small onion (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and grate the potatoes using a box grater or food processor.
  2. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water. Rinse thoroughly to remove excess starch, then drain the potatoes well.
  3. If using onion, finely chop it and mix it with the grated potatoes.
  4. In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
  5. Add the grated potato mixture to the skillet, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.
  6. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Flip the hash browns in sections and cook for another 5-7 minutes on the other side until crisp.
  8. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot.

Notes

For different flavors, consider using olive oil or butter. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
