Crispy Homemade Hash Browns

Delightful and crispy homemade hash browns perfect for breakfast or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 1 small onion (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Start by peeling and grating the potatoes. If you’re including the onion, go ahead and grate it too.
  2. Rinse the grated potatoes under cold water to wash away excess starch, then pat them dry with a clean towel.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Spread the grated potatoes and onion (if using) into an even layer in the hot skillet.
  5. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  6. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until one side turns golden brown and crispy.
  7. Flip the hash browns and cook the other side until it’s equally crispy.
  8. Once done, remove them from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve hot, ideally with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For the crispiest results, opt for starchy potatoes like Russets and don’t skip patting them dry.
