Homemade Krispy Kremes

Delicious homemade donuts that are fluffy and covered in powdered sugar, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and ground nutmeg until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir gently until just combined.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to lift the donuts from the oil and place them on paper towels.
  7. While they’re still warm, generously dust the donuts with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For variation, add vanilla extract or cinnamon to the batter, or dip the donuts in chocolate after frying.
