A comforting and satisfying breakfast casserole filled with savory sausage, fluffy eggs, and cheese, perfect for busy mornings or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 cups bread cubes
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard (optional)
  • Chopped vegetables (like bell peppers, onions, or spinach, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and dried mustard (if using) until smooth.
  3. Grease a baking dish. Layer the bread cubes, cooked sausage, cheese, and optional vegetables.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the layers, ensuring everything is well soaked. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. The next day, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the casserole for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown.
  6. Let cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For creamy texture, consider using half-and-half instead of milk. Use stale bread for better absorption.
